Quick answer

  • The Worst Generation is 12 pirates: the 11 Supernovas who were on Sabaody Archipelago before the Summit War (Ch. 498) plus Blackbeard, who was a Warlord at the time and never set foot there with them (Ch. 664).
  • Only Luffy and Blackbeard became Emperors of the Sea (Ch. 650, 1053). Law and Kid also reached 3 billion berries but were then beaten by Blackbeard’s crew (Ch. 1081) and Shanks (Ch. 1079).
  • As of Chapter 1196, Luffy, Zoro and Bonney are on Elbaph, Blackbeard rules Hachinosu, and Drake is recovering in a Marine hospital. Kid, Killer and Hawkins stopped at a defeat; Law at an escape; Apoo, Bege and Urouge have been absent for years.
  • No member has a confirmed death in the manga. Kid’s 315 million was the highest bounty at Sabaody, not Luffy’s 300 million.

The Worst Generation is the name the One Piece world gives to twelve pirates: the eleven Supernovas who were all on Sabaody Archipelago just before the Summit War, plus Blackbeard (Marshall D. Teach), who was never a rookie but rose at the same time (Ch. 664). Two of the twelve, Luffy and Blackbeard, are now Emperors of the Sea. Two more, Law and Kid, reached a 3 billion berry bounty and were then beaten by an Emperor’s crew.

This guide lists all 12 members with their crews, Devil Fruits and bounties, explains who became an Emperor, and tracks the last confirmed manga appearance of each member. Chapter numbers refer to the manga. The article covers the story up to Chapter 1196 (the Elbaph arc) and contains spoilers up to that point.

All 12 Worst Generation members: crew, Devil Fruit and bounty

The Sabaody column is the bounty Shakky lists when the Supernovas are introduced (Ch. 498). The “latest” column is the most recent figure shown in the manga.

Three things stand out when you read the table top to bottom.

  • Kid, not Luffy, had the highest bounty at Sabaody. Kid’s 315 million beat Luffy’s 300 million (Ch. 498).
  • Five members have crossed 1 billion in the table above: Blackbeard (3.996 billion), Luffy, Law and Kid (3 billion each), and Zoro (1.111 billion). Four belong to the original eleven Supernovas; Blackbeard is the fifth member when counting the full Worst Generation.
  • Two bounties have never moved. Drake’s 222 million and Urouge’s 108 million are the same numbers Shakky read out two years earlier. Drake’s is explained by his double life as a Marine; Urouge simply has not had a new poster shown.

Only two members are not captains (Zoro and Killer), and only one has no Devil Fruit at all (Zoro). Killer ate a defective SMILE in Wano, which gave him no power and left him unable to stop laughing (Ch. 944).

Supernovas vs Worst Generation: what’s the difference?

Two labels, two head countsEleven Supernovas・Rookies with a bounty over 100 million・All reached Sabaody at the same time (Ch. 498)・Luffy, Zoro, Law, Kid, Killer, Hawkins, Drake, Apoo, Bonney,・Bege, UrougeWorst Generation・The eleven Supernovas plus Blackbeard・Named by Brownbeard in Punk Hazard (Ch. 664)・Blackbeard was a Warlord, not a rookie, and was not on・Sabaody

The two terms overlap but are not the same.

  • Supernova (Super Rookie) is a general label for a rookie pirate with a bounty over 100 million berries. The “Eleven Supernovas” are the eleven such rookies who happened to reach Sabaody Archipelago at the same time, which Shakky calls a rare event (Ch. 498).
  • Worst Generation is those eleven plus Blackbeard. The term is explained in the Punk Hazard arc by the pirate Brownbeard, who lumps the eleven rookies together with Teach as the “problem children” who have driven the New Age of piracy since the Summit War (Ch. 664).

So the statement “all 12 members of the Worst Generation gathered at Sabaody” is wrong. Blackbeard was not on Sabaody with the rookies. He was a former Whitebeard Pirate and a sitting Warlord of the Sea at the time, and he was already operating in the New World while the eleven were still preparing to enter it.

Who in the Worst Generation became an Emperor?

Two of the twelve hold a seat among the Four Emperors as of Chapter 1196.

Member How he got the seat When it was confirmed
Blackbeard Took Whitebeard’s Devil Fruit power at Marineford and his place among the Emperors Reported to the Straw Hats by Jinbe after the time skip (Ch. 650)
Luffy Defeated Kaidou in the Raid on Onigashima Named a new Emperor in the newspaper, alongside Buggy (Ch. 1053)

The current Four Emperors are Shanks, Blackbeard, Buggy and Luffy (Ch. 1053). Law and Kid are not among them, even though the same newspaper gave both of them a 3 billion bounty, the same figure as Luffy, for their part in defeating Big Mom.

That is the key split in this group. The two who sit on an Emperor’s seat got there by removing an existing Emperor: Luffy beat Kaidou, and Blackbeard built on Whitebeard’s death. The two who reached 3 billion without a seat, Law and Kid, were next beaten by Emperor-level crews:

  • Law lost to Blackbeard’s crew in a winner-takes-all fight over Road Poneglyph copies (Ch. 1063–1064, 1081).
  • Kid was cut down by Shanks in a single blow at Elbaph, and Dorry and Brogy sank his ship (Ch. 1079).

A 3 billion bounty marks someone as an Emperor-level threat. In the story so far, it has not meant he can beat one.

Where is the Worst Generation now? (as of Chapter 1196)

This is the question most readers actually have. The table gives each member’s last confirmed appearance in the manga. “Fate unknown” means the manga has shown a defeat but has not shown a death.

Member Last confirmed appearance Status
Luffy Fighting Imu on Elbaph with Loki; their combined attack lands, but Luffy runs out of stamina (Ch. 1192–1193) Active, main character of the Elbaph arc
Zoro Masters Supreme King Haki mid-fight and strikes down Shepherd Sommers of the Knights of God (Ch. 1194–1195) Active on Elbaph
Jewelry Bonney Reaches Elbaph with Kuma and Lilith and decides to stay there permanently (Ch. 1135); pulls the wounded Sanji to safety during Imu’s attack (Ch. 1181–1182) Active on Elbaph
Blackbeard Defeats Law and destroys his ship (Ch. 1081); holds Garp on Hachinosu; last seen meeting his officers and ordering Laffitte to stand by (Ch. 1126) Active, Emperor
X Drake Stabbed in the neck by CP0’s Guernika at Onigashima (Ch. 1042); SWORD loses contact with him (Ch. 1061); then recovering in a Marine hospital, visited by Kujaku, listening to Vegapunk’s broadcast (Ch. 1117) Alive, recovering
Trafalgar Law Loses to Blackbeard; Bepo, in daytime Sulong form thanks to a drug from Chopper, grabs him and dives into the sea (Ch. 1081) Alive when last seen; not shown since
Eustass Kid Struck down by Shanks’s Kamusari in one blow; the Victoria Punk is split by Dorry and Brogy’s Hakoku and the crew sinks with it (Ch. 1079) Fate unknown
Killer Jumps in to shield Kid and is badly hurt in the same attack, then sinks with the ship (Ch. 1079) Fate unknown
Basil Hawkins Beaten by Killer at Onigashima (Ch. 1029); after the raid he tells Drake the man with a “1% chance of survival” was himself and collapses (Ch. 1052) Fate unknown
Scratchmen Apoo Survives the raid; brings the newspaper with the new bounties and Emperors to Tokage Port (Ch. 1052–1053) Alive; not shown since Wano
Capone Bege Escapes Totto Land on a stolen Tarte ship (Ch. 901); afterwards appears only in the cover-page story “Gang Bege’s Oh My Family” Alive; absent from the main story
Urouge Defeats Sweet Commander Snack, then loses to Cracker and flees (mentioned in Ch. 837); last seen praying as Kaidou jumps from Ballon Terminal (Ch. 795) Alive; absent since Dressrosa

Counting it up: five members (Luffy, Zoro, Bonney, Blackbeard, Drake) have a current, on-page situation. Three (Kid, Killer, Hawkins) stopped at a defeat with no follow-up. Law stopped at an escape. Apoo, Bege and Urouge simply have not appeared in the main story for a long time.

No member of the Worst Generation has a confirmed death. Articles that say “Hawkins is dead” or “Kid and Killer died” go beyond what the manga shows. Hawkins collapsed; Kid and Killer sank with their ship. One Piece has a long record of bringing back characters from exactly this kind of unresolved exit, so treat these as open threads, not endings.

Why a bounty does not settle the outcome

Kid’s 3-billion bounty does not prevent Shanks from cutting him down before Damned Punk fires. Dorry and Brogy then destroy the Victoria Punk, leaving his crew in the sea (Episode 1112). Law likewise loses to Blackbeard and the Polar Tang sinks (Episode 1115). These are defeats of captains and crews; neither synopsis establishes their deaths. That distinction matters when reading the status column.

How the Worst Generation split in Wano

Sabaody is where the eleven met, but Wano is where most of them were in one place: eight of the twelve.

  • Alliance side: Luffy, Zoro, Law, Kid and Killer fought the Beasts Pirates and Big Mom.
  • Beasts Pirates side: Hawkins served as a Shinuchi; Apoo acted as Kaidou’s informant.
  • Both sides at once: Drake was one of Kaidou’s Tobiroppo while secretly leading the Marine unit SWORD.

The group also turned on itself. Kid, Hawkins and Apoo really did form an alliance after the time skip and it came face to face with Kaidou (Ch. 795). It collapsed because Apoo was already working for Kaidou and had set the other two up (Ch. 954). Hawkins submitted; Kid refused and was imprisoned. On Onigashima it was Killer, Kid’s own right hand, who finally cut Hawkins down after Hawkins linked his life to Kid’s (Ch. 1022, 1029). And the crew that finished off Law’s run after Wano was led by another member of the same generation, Blackbeard (Ch. 1081).

Common mistakes about the Worst Generation

Claim you often see What the manga shows
All 12 gathered at Sabaody Only the 11 Supernovas did. Blackbeard was a Warlord in the New World (Ch. 664)
Supernova = Worst Generation Supernovas are the 11 rookies; the Worst Generation adds Blackbeard
Luffy had the top bounty at Sabaody Kid did, 315 million to Luffy’s 300 million (Ch. 498)
Hawkins, Kid and Killer are dead Each is shown defeated, not dead (Ch. 1052, 1079)
The Kid–Hawkins–Apoo alliance never happened It formed and met Kaidou (Ch. 795), then fell apart because of Apoo (Ch. 954)
Bonney ate the Toshi Toshi no Mi She gained its powers through Saturn’s experiments on Egghead (Ch. 1103)
Bege’s bounty is 350 million in the main story 300 million is the last figure in the main chapters (Ch. 812); 350 million appears on a cover page (Ch. 966)
Urouge’s bounty rose to several hundred million Only 108 million has ever been shown (Ch. 498)

What the list tells you

At Sabaody the gap between the top and bottom of the eleven was about three to one (315 million to 108 million). For those same eleven, the figures in the table now span about twenty-eight to one (3 billion to 108 million). Including Blackbeard changes the group to twelve and raises the top figure to 3.996 billion, a gap of thirty-seven to one against 108 million. Almost all of that spread is explained by which Emperor each member ran into. Those who fought and beat Kaidou and Big Mom went up. Those who served Kaidou stayed in the 200–350 million range. Those who ran into Blackbeard or Shanks lost their ships.

Twelve pirates were thrown into the same sea to fight over the same four seats. Two of them sat down. Of the other ten, several are frozen in a defeat panel waiting for Oda to come back to them. The Elbaph arc has already rewritten the right-hand column of this table once, with Kid; it may do so again.
